The "Award of Scholarships to Young Artists in Different Cultural Fields" scheme is an initiative by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. This program aims to support promising young artists by providing them with advanced training opportunities in various cultural disciplines throughout India.

Overview of the Scheme

This scheme is designed to grant assistance to exceptionally talented young individuals pursuing advanced training in Indian Classical Music, Indian Classical Dance, Theatre, Mime, Visual Arts, Folk, Traditional and Indigenous Arts, and Light Classical Music. The scholarships are aimed at nurturing the next generation of artists by providing them with the necessary support for their artistic development.

Fields of Study Eligible for Scholarships

  • Indian Classical Music: Includes Classical Hindustani Music (both Vocal and Instrumental) and Classical Carnatic Music (both Vocal and Instrumental).
  • Indian Classical Dance/Dance Music: Covers various forms such as Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Mohiniattam, Odissi, Manipuri, Thangta, Gaudiya Nritya, and Chhau Dance/Music.
  • Theatre: Focuses on specialized aspects of theatre arts, including acting and direction, but excludes playwriting and research, as well as Mime.
  • Visual Arts: Encompasses Graphics, Sculpture, Painting, Creative Photography, Pottery & Ceramics, among others.
  • Folk, Traditional, and Indigenous Arts: Involves Puppetry, Folk Theatre, Folk Dances, Folk Songs, and Folk Music.
  • Light Classical Music:
    • Thumri, Dadra, Tappa, Qawali, Ghazal.
    • Light Classical music based on Carnatic Style.
    • Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, and Atulprasad.

Scholarship Terms

The precise nature of training will vary based on each scholar's prior experience and background. Typically, training will involve advanced instruction under a Guru/Master or in a recognized institution. Scholars must commit to rigorous training, which entails at least three hours of daily practice, in addition to theoretical studies related to their chosen discipline.

Benefits of the Scheme

The scheme provides a total of 400 scholarships. Each selected scholar will receive a monthly stipend of ₹5000 for a period of two years. This financial support is intended to cover living expenses, travel, books, art materials, equipment, and any tuition or training fees incurred during the scholarship period.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be Indian Nationals.
  • Candidates should possess sufficient general education to effectively pursue their training.
  • Evidence of commitment to their training must be demonstrated.
  • As the scholarships are aimed at advanced training, candidates should already have attained a degree of proficiency in their chosen field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of training with a Guru/Institute is required. A certificate signed by the current and any former Guru/Institute must accompany the application.
  • Candidates must have a solid understanding of related arts and disciplines.
  • The age of the applicant should range between 18 and 25 years as of April 1st of the application year. No age relaxation will be permitted.

Application Process

The application process is conducted online as follows:

  1. An advertisement inviting applications will be released by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), New Delhi.
  2. Interested candidates must submit their applications online via the CSMS Portal available on the Ministry of Culture and CCRT websites.
  3. Visit the official website and select “MOC Schemes Application.”
  4. Click on Registration and complete the registration form.
  5. Obtain a Username and Password for login.
  6. Access the current scheme status and select the relevant scheme.
  7. Complete the application form and submit it.

Post-Application Process

  1. Shortlisted candidates will undergo scrutiny using software provided by NIC on the CSMS portal and will be invited for an Interview/Test by an Expert Committee appointed by the Ministry of Culture.
  2. Candidates must attend an interview or performance before the Expert Committee. Notifications regarding the interview date, time, and venue will be sent via email to the address provided in the online application. Selections will be based solely on merit.
  3. Approved lists of recommended candidates will be sent to the Ministry of Culture. Selected candidates will receive an Award letter by post and email, with the list also being published on the CCRT and Ministry of Culture websites.

Note: Any address changes must be communicated to the Ministry in writing, including the subject/field of training and File No. (if applicable). Separate applications must be submitted for each field if a candidate applies for multiple fields.

Benefits

Under the scheme, total number of scholarships is 400.
Each scholar will be paid ₹5000/- per month for a period of two years to cover his/ her living expenses on travel, books, art material, or other equipment and tuition or training charges, if any.
The scholarships are provided in the field of Indian Classical Music, Classical Dances, Light Classical Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, and Folk/ Traditional and Indigenous Arts.

Application Process:
Step 01: An advertisement inviting applications will be issued by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT), New Delhi.

Post-Application Process:
Step 01: The shortlisted applicants after the process of scrutiny which is done through the software made available by NIC on the CSMS portal, are called for an Interview/Test before the Expert Committee constituted by the Ministry of Culture.
Step 02: Candidates will be required to appear for an interview/ performance before the expert Committee. The date, time, and venue of the interview/performance will be intimated to the candidates through e-mail given by the candidates in their online application. The selection will be made purely on merit.
Step 03: The list of recommended candidates is sent to the Ministry of Culture for approval and after approval, the selected candidates are informed about the selection by sending an Award letter by post as well as by email, and the list of selected candidates is also uploaded on CCRT’s website and Ministry of Culture respectively.
Note 01: Any change in the address may be given to the Ministry in writing. While doing so subject/field of training, File No. (if any) should invariably be given.
Note 02: Separate online applications should be submitted for each field if the candidate wants to apply for more than one field.
