Compensation for Loss of Life and Property Caused by Wild Animals in and around Forest Areas: Assistance for Damage to Houses Due to Wild Elephant Attacks
The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to residents of Uttarakhand whose houses, boundary walls, huts, or kutcha structures are damaged by wild elephants.
About This Scheme
The scheme โAssistance for Damage to Houses Due to Wild Elephant Attacksโ is a sub-component of the umbrella scheme โCompensation for Loss of Life and Property Caused by Wild Animals in and Around Forest Areasโ, which is implemented by the Department of Forest, Government of Uttarakhand. The scheme aims to provide financial assistance to residents of Uttarakhand whose houses, boundary walls, huts, or kutcha structures are damaged by wild elephants.
Benefits
At present, the following compensation amounts are provided in the event of house damage caused by wild elephants:

Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must be a resident of Uttarakhand.
The compensation is provided for damage to houses caused by wild elephants in and around forest areas of Uttarakhand.
Application Process
Apply Offline
In case of damage to a house due to an attack by wild elephants, the incident must be reported in writing to the concerned Range Office within two days. It will then be immediately verified by the Forest Inspector or Deputy Forest Range Officer. After the damage has been jointly assessed by the Naib Tehsildar and the Range Officer of the concerned area, the investigation report will be submitted to the Assistant Conservator of Forests/Wildlife Warden, who will conduct a final investigation and forward the report to the Divisional Forest Officer/Deputy Director within one month.
Upon receiving the final report, the Divisional Forest Officer/Deputy Director has full authority to approve and disburse the ex-gratia compensation. The Divisional Forest Officer/Deputy Director will also ensure that complete details of the case are communicated to the Chief Wildlife Warden.
Note: The Forest Department has issued a toll-free number – 1800-890-9715. Anyone can use this number to report human-wildlife incidents or the presence of wildlife in populated areas anywhere in the state.
