This initiative, launched in 2010 by the Department of Women & Child Development, seeks to alleviate financial burdens by providing annual assistance ranging from ₹25 to ₹125, depending on the educational standard of the child.
About the Scheme
The primary objective of the “Educational Allowances for Children of Widows” scheme is to offer financial aid for educational expenses for children of widowed mothers residing in the Union Territory of Puducherry. The assistance is intended to cover costs related to educational materials, thereby facilitating continued education for children up to the higher secondary level or its equivalent.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the benefits under this scheme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
- The applicant should be a resident of the Union Territory of Puducherry, either by birth or continuous residence for a minimum of three years.
- The applicant must be a widow.
- The annual income of the applicant should not exceed ₹24,000.
- The applicant’s child must be enrolled as a student.
- The child must have achieved at least 50% marks in each academic class.
Application Process
Applications can be submitted through both offline and online methods. Below are detailed steps for each process:
Apply Offline
- The applicant should visit the Office or Sub-Office of the Department of Women and Child Development during official hours to request a hard copy of the application form.
- Alternatively, the applicant can download and print the prescribed application form.
- Complete the application form by filling in all required fields, affixing a passport-sized photograph (if necessary), and attaching copies of all required documents (self-attested if applicable).
- Submit the completed application form and accompanying documents to either the Deputy Director (Women Development) or the Child Development Project Officer, depending on the location, at least 30 days before the intended application date.
- Request a receipt or acknowledgment from the authority upon submission, ensuring it includes essential details such as the date and time of submission, along with a unique identification number if applicable.
Apply Online
- Navigate to the official website of the e-District Portal of the Government of Puducherry.
- Click on “Login” in the top right corner of the homepage. If you are a new user, select “Register a New Membership.”
- On the registration page, fill in all mandatory fields, including Username, Password, Personal Details, and agree to the declaration. Complete the Captcha verification and click “Signup.”
- Return to the e-District Portal homepage, click “Login,” and enter your Username and Password. Complete the Captcha and click “Sign In.”
- You will be presented with a list of government schemes organized by department. Select the scheme you wish to apply for, which will direct you to the online application form.
- Complete the online form by filling in all mandatory fields and uploading the required documents (self-attested if necessary).
- Check the declaration box confirming the accuracy of the details provided. Submit the application and make a note of the application number for tracking purposes. This number will also be sent to your registered mobile number or email address.

Application Process
Apply Offline
Step 1: The interested applicant should visit (during office hours) the Office/ Sub-Office
of the Department of Women and Child Development, and request the hard copy of the prescribed format of the application form from the staff exclusively entrusted to issue and collect filled-in applications.
OR
The interested applicant should take print of the prescribed format of the application form.
Step 2: In the application form, fill in all the mandatory fields, paste the passport-sized photograph (signed across, if required), and attach copies of all the mandatory documents (self-attest, if required).
Step 3: Submit the duly filled and signed application form along with the documents to the Deputy Director (Women Development) or the Child Development Project Officer (depending on the location), at least 30 days before the proposed marriage date.
Step 4: Request a receipt or acknowledgment from the concerned authority to whom the application has been submitted. Ensure that the receipt contains essential details such as the date and time of submission, and a unique identification number (if applicable).

Step 2: At the top right corner of the home page, click "Login
". In the login screen, click "Register a New Membership
".
Step 3: On the Registration Page, fill in all the mandatory fields: Username, Password, Confirm Password, Personal Details (Full Name, First Name, Email Address, Address, Current Address, Gender, Date of Birth, Mobile Number). Agree to the declaration. Fill in the Captcha Code, and click "Signup".
Step 4: Visit the Official Website
of the e-District Portal of the Government of Puducherry.
Step 5: At the top right corner of the home page, click "Login
". In the login screen, provide your Username and Password, fill in the Captcha Code, and click "Sign In".
Step 6: On the next screen, a list of schemes by the Government of Puducherry will be displayed Department-wise.
Step 7: Click on the scheme you wish to apply for. You will be taken to its online application form.
Step 8: In the application form, fill in all the mandatory fields (marked with a red asterisk) and upload all the mandatory documents (self-attest if required).
Step 9: Tick the declaration stating "I hereby declare that the above-mentioned details are true and correct as per the best of my Knowledge". Submit the application and note the application number for tracking your application
