Educational Loan Scheme (GMFDC)

The Educational Loan Scheme, initiated by the Gujarat Minorities Finance and Development Corporation (GMFDC), serves as a vital financial support system for students from minority communities. This initiative is designed to facilitate access to technical and non-technical education, both domestically and internationally, ultimately enhancing employment prospects for beneficiaries.

About the Scheme

Administered by the Gujarat Minorities Finance and Development Corporation under the Social Justice and Empowerment Department of the Government of Gujarat, the Educational Loan Scheme provides financial assistance in the form of loans to students pursuing various educational courses. This scheme primarily supports individuals from minority communities, enabling them to pursue graduate and postgraduate studies in technical, vocational, professional, and medical fields, whether within India or abroad.

Key Benefits

  • For domestic studies, students can secure loans of up to ₹1,50,000 per year, with a maximum of ₹7,50,000 for a five-year course.
  • Medical students can avail loans of ₹2,50,000 for one year and up to ₹12,50,000 for five years.
  • For studies abroad, the maximum loan amount is ₹3,00,000 for one year and ₹15,00,000 for five years.
  • The annual interest rate for these loans is set at a low 3%.

Important Notes:

  • Families with incomes between ₹1,20,000 and ₹8,00,000 qualify for interest rates of 5% for female applicants and 8% for male applicants.
  • Loan repayment is structured over 60 equal monthly installments, commencing within five years of course completion or upon securing employment, whichever comes first.
  • Delays in payment attract a penalty interest rate of 2%.
