Financial Assistance for Fishermen: Lifejackets and Lifebuoys Scheme

The Government of Goa has launched a vital initiative aimed at enhancing the safety of fishermen through the scheme titled “Financial Assistance for the Purchase of Lifejackets and Lifebuoys for Fishermen” (मछुआरों के लिए लाइफजैकेट और लाइफबॉय खरीदने के लिए वित्तीय सहायता). This program, managed by the Department of Fisheries, offers substantial financial support to eligible fishermen, helping them acquire essential safety gear.

Overview of the Scheme

This scheme is designed to provide financial aid amounting to 50% of the total cost for purchasing lifejackets and lifebuoys. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of fishermen while they engage in their professions. Applications for this scheme must be submitted in offline mode, ensuring a straightforward process for interested applicants.

Benefits of the Scheme

The financial assistance under this scheme includes:

• Up to ₹1,000 per lifejacket
• Up to ₹1,500 per lifebuoy

Specific allocations per fishing vessel type are as follows:

• For Canoes Equipped with Outboard Motors (OBM): 5 Life Jackets and 1 Lifebuoy
• For Mechanised Trawlers Engaged in Trawling Operations: 8 Life Jackets and 2 Lifebuoys
• For Mechanised Trawlers Engaged in Purse Seining Operations: 25 Life Jackets and 4 Lifebuoys

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for assistance under this scheme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• The individual must be a traditional fisherman, either by birth or profession.
• The applicant should be a resident of Goa.
• Possession of one of the following is mandatory:
  • A Canoe fitted with Outboard Motor (OBM)
  • A Mechanised Trawler engaged in Trawling Operations
  • A Mechanised Trawler engaged in Purse Seining Operations

Application Procedure

Interested candidates can apply for the scheme by following these steps:

1. Download and print the official application form in the prescribed format.
2. Carefully fill in all required fields on the application form, affix a passport-sized photograph (signed across, if necessary), and attach self-attested copies of all mandatory documents.
3. Submit the completed application form along with all documents to the relevant authority at the Department of Fisheries, located at Dayanand Bandodkar Marg, Patto Colony, Panaji Goa – 403 521, or to the official at the Block Development Office (BDO) or Sub-Offices of the Department of Fisheries.

Grievance Redressal

In the event of any grievances or dissatisfaction regarding the services or standards of the scheme, individuals are encouraged to contact the Department’s Grievance Redressal Officer. Complaints can also be lodged via email at dir-fish.goa@nic.in. All grievances will be acknowledged, and a resolution will be communicated within 30 days of the submission.
