About This Scheme

The scheme “Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls’ Hostel” is an initiative under the Samagra Shiksha Programme, implemented by the Secondary Education Department, Government of Uttarakhand. The scheme aims to encourage girls’ participation in education at the upper primary and secondary levels and to provide quality education to girls from disadvantaged groups studying in Classes 6 to 12.

Benefits

Girls from various disadvantaged groups such as socially disadvantaged classes (Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Minorities, and Backward Classes), economically weaker sections, and girls with special needs are identified and enrolled in the hostels at the upper primary and secondary levels (Classes 6 to 12).

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant (girl student) must be a resident of Uttarakhand.

The applicant should be a studying at the upper primary or secondary level (Class 6 to Class 12).

In line with the target group of the scheme, 75% of the seats in KGBVs are reserved for girls from SC, ST, OBC, and minority communities, while the remaining 25% are reserved for girls from families living Below Poverty Line (BPL).

In addition, girls from economically weaker families (with an annual income of less than ₹55,000/-) or those who have lost both parents or one parent will also be eligible for admission.

Application Process

Apply Offline

Before the commencement of the academic session, applications for vacant seats are invited through wide publicity.

Documents/Certificates required for admission:

School leaving certificate / certificate of never having attended school / affidavit / declaration.

BPL certificate / ration card.

Income certificate / caste certificate.

Certificate stating that the distance between the school and the residence is more than 3 km.
