About This Scheme

Launched in 2015-16, the scheme “Mukhyamantri Nidan Yojana” (also known as “Free Laboratory Testing Scheme”) by the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat, aims to provide quality diagnostic facilities without charge at all government health institutions and ensure timely and accurate diagnosis of diseases like malaria, tuberculosis, cancer, diabetes, hypertension to reduce morbidity and mortality in communities. The scheme provides free essential pathology, biochemistry, hematology, microbiology testing services at all government health institutions and strengthens existing laboratory facilities with quality equipment and trained staff along with regular supply of reagent kits. The applicant must be seeking healthcare services at government health facilities and require diagnostic testing for medical conditions. The scheme is implemented through a three-tier healthcare structure consisting of Sub Health Centers, Primary Health Centers, Community Health Centers, Sub-District Hospitals, District Hospitals and Medical Colleges with a total budget allocation of ₹200.94 crores, and applications are accepted offline at respective government healthcare facilities.

Visit the nearest government healthcare facility (Sub Health Center, Primary Health Center, Community Health Center, Sub-District Hospital, District Hospital, or Medical College hospital) during working hours with all required documents.

Step 2: Medical Consultation

Consult with the qualified medical officer or doctor available at the facility who will assess your medical condition and determine the necessary diagnostic tests required for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Step 3: Prescription Receipt

Obtain a written prescription from the medical officer specifying the required laboratory tests, X-ray, sonography, or Electrocardiography services needed for your medical condition.

Step 4: Laboratory Registration

Proceed to the laboratory or diagnostic section of the healthcare facility with your prescription and identity documents, where the laboratory technician will register your case and assign a unique identification number.

Step 5: Sample Collection and Testing

Undergo the prescribed diagnostic procedures including sample collection for laboratory tests, X-ray imaging, sonography, or Electrocardiography as per the medical officer’s prescription under the supervision of trained technical staff.

Step 6: Report Collection

Collect your diagnostic test reports from the laboratory or diagnostic section as per the timeline specified by the facility, which may vary depending on the type of tests conducted.

Step 7: Follow-up Consultation

Return to the medical officer with your test reports for interpretation of results, further medical advice, and continuation of treatment as necessary for your healthcare needs.
