About This Scheme
The scheme “Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan” was launched on 9th June 2016 by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, aims to provide fixed-day assured, comprehensive and quality antenatal care universally to all pregnant women (in 2nd and 3rd trimester) on the 9th of every month, addressing the critical need for standardized maternal healthcare services and reducing maternal and infant mortality rates across the country. The scheme provides assured, comprehensive and quality antenatal care, free of cost, universally to all pregnant women on the 9th of every month and includes a minimum package of antenatal care services provided by Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists, Radiologists, and Physicians at government health facilities. The applicant must be a pregnant woman in her 2nd or 3rd trimester of pregnancy and must be willing to visit designated government health facilities on the 9th of every month for antenatal care services. The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India through National Health Mission at state and district levels and applications for this scheme are accepted both online through the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan portal and offline at designated government health facilities.

Medical Services Provided
Comprehensive Antenatal Care: Special Antenatal Care services provided by Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists, Radiologists, and Physicians at government health facilities.
Minimum Package of Services: A minimum package of investigations and medicines such as Iron Folic Acid and calcium supplements provided to all pregnant women attending Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan clinics.
High Risk Pregnancy Identification: Identification and follow-up of high risk pregnancies with red stickers added to Mother and Child Protection cards.

Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must be a pregnant woman in her 2nd or 3rd trimester of pregnancy.
The applicant must be an Indian citizen residing in India.
The applicant must be willing to visit designated government health facilities on the 9th of every month.
Trimester Specific Criteria
The applicant must have completed the first trimester of pregnancy (beyond 12 weeks of gestation).
The applicant must be in 2nd trimester (13-28 weeks) or 3rd trimester (29-40 weeks) of pregnancy.
Special Categories
The applicant identified as high-risk pregnancy cases receive priority attention and follow-up care.
The applicant who are dropouts from regular antenatal care services are encouraged to participate.
Application Process

Step 1: Identify Nearest Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan Facility
The pregnant woman should visit the
Official Portal
of PMSMA or download the ‘PMSMA’ mobile application to find their nearest PMSMA facility using the ‘Nearest Facility’ search feature.
Step 2: Visit on Designated Day
The beneficiary must visit the identified government health facility (Primary Health Centre, Community Health Centre, District Hospital, or urban health facility) on the 9th of every month. If the 9th falls on Sunday or holiday, services are provided on the next working day.
Step 3: Registration at Facility
Upon reaching the facility, the pregnant woman should register herself at the PMSMA counter or reception desk by providing basic identity information and contact details.
Step 4: Medical Consultation and Examination
The beneficiary will receive comprehensive antenatal care services including medical consultation with Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists, Radiologists, or Physicians as per the minimum package of services defined under the scheme.
Step 5: Investigation and Tests
Required medical investigations, tests, and screening procedures will be conducted as per the standardized protocol for 2nd and 3rd trimester pregnant women under the single window system.
Step 6: Medicine Distribution
The beneficiary will receive prescribed medicines including Iron Folic Acid tablets, calcium supplements, and other necessary medications free of cost from the facility pharmacy.
Step 7: Risk Assessment and Follow-up
Healthcare providers will assess pregnancy risk factors and if identified as high-risk, a red sticker will be placed on the Mother and Child Protection card with necessary follow-up instructions.
Step 8: Next Visit Scheduling
The healthcare provider will provide information about the next visit date (9th of following month) and any interim care requirements or emergency contact procedures.
*The beneficiary is advised to maintain their Mother and Child Protection card and keep track of visit dates for continuous care throughout pregnancy.
