The scheme “Skill Development and Economic Empowerment” aims to provide vocational training and skill enhancement for visually challenged individuals. Through this scheme, free education, food, accommodation, and training in various job-oriented fields are provided to eligible candidates.

About This Scheme

The scheme “Skill Development and Economic Empowerment” by the is a central sector scheme that aims to provide inclusive vocational training and empower visually challenged individuals for economic self-reliance. Through this scheme, training is provided in various trades such as computer operations, stenography, programming assistance, secretarial assistance, and other technical fields. Additionally, students are provided with free meals, hostel accommodation, library facilities, teaching aids, and medical care. The scheme is implemented by the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities, Dehradun.

Free Vocational Training:

Provides training in various professional courses, including Computer Operator, Stenographer, Mushroom Producer, Radio Jockey, Data Entry Operator, Reflexology, and Gardener.

Essential Skill Training:

Offers training in Braille orientation and mobility, computer typing, Hindi and English, and home management skills.

Modern Learning Tools:

Senior students receive smartphones and laptops to facilitate modern and convenient studies.

Comprehensive Support for Trainees:

Eligibility Criteria

The applicant should belong to the Persons with Disabilities category.

The applicant should be a visually challenged (Blindness/ Low-Vision) individual.

The applicant should be willing to undergo full-time vocational training or other training courses.

Application Process

Step 1: The interested applicant should visit the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD), Dehradun, and request a hard copy of the prescribed format of the application form.

Step 2: In the application form, provide all the mandatory details, and attach copies of all the mandatory documents (self-attested, if required).

Step 3: Submit the duly filled and signed application form along with the supporting documents to the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD), Dehradun.

Step 4: Request a receipt or acknowledgement from the concerned authority to whom the application has been submitted.
